What’s everyone’s thoughts on Christopher Sly in The Taming of the Shrew? and like the point of including his character? It’s always bothered me that Shakespeare did that and I just feel super sorry for him, but there’s some debate about his contribution to the meaning of the play.

Any thoughts??

LAST Taming of the Shrew post for now but can we also talk about Christopher Sly and the fact that the entire play was performed just for HIM and the Shakespearean conspiracy theories surrounding that.

Also in a perfect world, Marilyn Monroe would have played Bianca in a version of The Taming of the Shrew at some point

oK but why don’t Shakespeare academics discuss things like whether Bianca deserved to get slapped by Kate?? Girl had a bunch of suitors and took her sweet ass time to decide who she wanted to marry and chooses the one guy who just randomly came along outta nowhere buT aLSO like could you blame Bianca for having all those suitors that girl was probably a snack

The number of Shakespearean characters who have a father but are, for some usually unspoken reason, missing a mother is often commented on. This isn’t to say that there aren’t any mothers in Shakespeare…. there are just a lot of missing ones. Let’s see what happens when we put some of them back.

Queen Lear would have SHUT THAT THING DOWN.
